Machinery and Lifts: ECM at European Notified Body meetings to get an overview

Next June, Ente Certificazione Macchine will participate at two important institutional events with the main European regulators and Notified Bodies to discuss issues and news about machinery and lifts.

As Notified Body no.1282, ECM takes part in the periodic meetings of debate and updating organised at international level by the institutions.

On 8-9 June 2021 our Technical Manager Ing. Matteo Ianelli will meet the representatives of the other European Notified Bodies for the Lift Directive 2014/33/EU at the 47th NB-Lift Meeting. On 11th June it will be the turn of the 52nd Machinery NB Meeting for the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

FROM DIRECTIVE 2006/42/EC TO THE NEW MACHINERY REGULATION

As previously announced, the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC is preparing to become a Regulation. On 21 April 2021, the European Commission published the text of the proposal for a new Machinery Regulation (Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on machinery products) which, after passing the approval process, will replace the current Directive 2006/42/EC.

This is an important step from a legislative point of view: while directives have to be implemented by single States, regulations are directly applicable by all Member States. As a result, delays and ambiguous interpretations due to national implementation will be avoided. The new Machinery Regulation will also introduce important novelties with regard to digital innovations and new technologies.

EUROPEAN MEETINGS OF NOTIFIED BODIES

The periodic coordination meetings between Notified Bodies are an important opportunity to:

• keep up to date with regulatory news,
• debate on the main regulatory issues,
• contribute to the discussion with questions and opinions based on the NBs working experience.

During these meetings, the latest regulatory information is shared, leading to debates that impact the future development of the regulatory landscape.

The topic at the Notified Bodies meeting will be discussed by prestigious and competent speakers, who will provide their authoritative and recognised point of view.
